Founded in 1883, the Chartered
Institute of Environmental Health (CIEH) is a professional and
educational body, dedicated to the promotion of environmental health and
to encouraging the highest possible standards in the training and the
work of environmental health professionals.
CIEH has approximately 9,800 members worldwide, the majority being
located in England, Wales and Northern Ireland. As well as providing
services and information to its members, the CIEH also advises
government departments on environmental health and is consulted by them
on proposed legislation relevant to the work of environmental health
professionals.
The Greater London Centre,
known as the GLC, is one of 17 centres making up CIEH's national
structure. The GLC is the direct successor of the London Centre founded
in 1919 bringing together a number of local organisations.
